Motor boat or powerboat refers to a watercraft which is propelled by an engine. There are several synonyms for motor boat including speedboat, runabout, motor launch, power cruiser, and pleasure boat. Speedboat connotes a fast boat designed for racing or water sports. Runabout is a small motorboat with an open cockpit and usually used for pleasure or fishing. A motor launch is a smaller vessel commonly used for transportation to and from a larger ship. Power cruiser suggests a larger, comfortable motorboat suitable for extended excursions. Finally, a pleasure boat is a more general term for a recreational watercraft that can be sail or motor powered.
