Guillemet is a French term that refers to the angled quotation marks ( « and » ) prominently used in French language. These marks are also known as angle quotes, angle brackets, French quotes, chevrons, guillemets, duck-feet, or in English, simply called guillemet. The function of guillemet is to enclose quoted material in printed text. In other languages, guillemets have different names like "cita" in Spanish, "Gänsefüßchen" in German, and "anhführungszeichen" in Polish. Although it has different names, guillemet persists to do its job in different writing styles around the world as it is considered to be an important punctuating symbol.
