The Abu Nidal Organization, also known as the ANO, was founded in the 1970s by Sabri al-Banna, a Palestinian militant leader. This organization was responsible for numerous attacks against Israel and Western targets throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. The ANO has been referred to by a number of different names over the years, including the Fatah Revolutionary Council, the Black June Organization, and the Revolutionary Organization of Socialist Muslims. While the group is no longer active, it remains a significant historical player in the Middle Eastern conflict and serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of extremist organizations.
