Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary - has over 57 thousand entries, most with pronunciation information, including over 78 thousand audio pronunciations

Collins English Dictionary - a new online resource with over 115 thousand entries, most with usage examples and pronunciation information information, including over 90 thousand audio pronunciations (mostly British)

Encyclopaedia Britannica Online - a growing collection of over 84 thousand encyclopedic articles

the Free Dictionary by Farlex - includes many different reference sources on its entry pages and is a source of over 291 thousand American and British audio pronunciations - a collection of open-source dictionaries, including over 6 thousand audio pronunciations

Google Dictionary - a licenced version of the online English Oxford dictionary supplemented with other features, including over 53 thousand North American audio pronunciations (this resource is no longer separately available)

Infoplease - hosts over 129 thousand entries from the Random House Unabridged Dictionary and over 53 thousand browsable articles from Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th edition

Macmillan Dictionary - includes over 94 thousand entry pages of British and American English edition dictionaries and almost as many British and American audio pronunciations

Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary - the online edition of this leading American dictionary has over 113 thousand entries and over 95 thousand audio pronunciations

MSN Encarta U.S. English Dictionary - this resource is no longer online but was a useful resource with over 105 thousand entries (the Memidex Encarta index remains online)

Online Etymology Dictionary - a unique source of over 26 thousand detailed and distinct etymology entries

Oxford Dictionaries - bills itself as the source of "the most trusted dictionaries" and includes over 107 thousand distinct entries - hosts Webster's New World College Dictionary and American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 4th edition for a total of over 135 thousand entry pages and over 92 thousand audio pronunciations generated by speech synthesizer

Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia - the Internet's largest encyclopedia with over 3.5 million user-generated English articles

Wiktionary, The Free Dictionary - a collaboratively produced dictionary with over 2.3 million English definitions from over 400 languages
